How Technology Creates A Disconnected World
Sharing my experience how technology creates a disconnected world and why it need to be inclusive
I did a backpacking trip for 3 months across South East Asia (30 April - 29 July 2024). I came across few examples where I feel technology disconnected people
Bus in Ubud, Indonesia: So I was taking this bus from Ubud to Terminal Ubung, a guy who was above 50 was trying to go somewhere but he can't take the bus as he doesn't have the travel card. I also didn't had the card but driver for friendly to let me in, I feel this is somewhere were we improved the tech but didn't consider all the people before designing this. We should still have the way where people of any age get in the bus or use the service.
First Name, Last Name: This is not exactly my experience from travel but talking to traveler friends. I have a friend in UK, who wants to get few cards like Chase or Revolute but she's not able to get them as she just have first name, the tech failed here. We think everyone have first name and last name but it's not true. I also know a friend whose visa got rejected as she just had first name
Hostels: I have seen few hostels where there is barely human touch, you get your pass code on the app, you just use that code to unlock your room. Maybe really helpful when you arrive at odd time but still you miss the experience of being personal I feel.
I'll keep adding more to this list. So when we think of tech, let's think deeper and it being more inclusive
